A revolution is underway in enterprise wide area networks. The rise and mainstream adoption of cloud computing services, ubiquitous mobile connectivity, and the demands of an on-demand workforce have strained enterprise connections to remote and branch office networks. There are more users, devices, and connected things at the edge of the enterprise network, and they all need secure, reliable connectivity.
Traditionally, applications accessed from enterprise branch locations were hosted almost exclusively in internal corporate datacenters. A simple wide area connection between the branch and the headquarters would suffice. But the past decade has seen enterprises increasingly relying on cloud-hosted services for a range of applications, including mission-critical workloads. Traditional WAN architectures have become unfit for the modern era.
